Where Microsoft's sidewalk will go

Microsoft (MSFT:Nasdaq) may be closing its Sidewalk offices. Not offices right off the street, but the software giant's online guides venture, MSN Sidewalk.com. According to reports, Microsoft told Sidewalk.com employees that the site and operations may be shut down and that employees should explore other employment openings.

MSN Sidewalk.com provides local guides to entertainment, arts, weather, news, dining, and more. However, Sidewalk.com may not be simply eliminated. Ticketmaster Online-City Search (TMCS:Nasdaq) is reportedly interested in the Internet property and has held talks with Microsoft regarding the potential deal.

Charles Conn, CEO of City Search, confirmed rumors that they are in talks to acquire the content areas of Sidewalk.com. However, Conn declined to say more on the subject than "We do talk to Microsoft all the time, we work with them in other areas, and we're friendly with them."

Microsoft closed Friday up 11/16 to 93 1/4, while Ticketmaster Online-City Search added 5/8 to 34 7/8 ahead of the rumors.
