I have shorted only a few times ... lost or made measily each time ... it's hard enough to figure out the trend and movements going one way, let alone trying to learn the opposite. The thing that scares me the most about shorting, is the loss possibilities are endless .... no zero point.

Just a few stocks that I have owned and sold at/near breakeven after holding through 50% corrections
6 months to a year

my first year of trading
... HLIT in at 19 out at 16 ... in the 50's now?

my second year of trading
ASND in at 40 sold 1/3 at low 23, sold 2/3 at 43
it hit a low of 22 ... now trading at 100?

my 3rd year of trading ... now I look forward to buying some 'good name brand' divers for several months holds

currently holding on the dive entry CNS. In at 16 will hold 6 months for 35.

One company I have several positions in is CDN at low sales prices .... a high flyer ... it may be within the next six months to a year. It has done it's dive thing, and has been building a base in the 13's. Target 6 months, 24 which is resistance.

just in the last few weeks I had bottom picked both
DELL in at 36 sold at 42
CPQ in at 23 and 22 sold at 26
I do not want to hold these over the next month, cause they are prone to 'earnings warnings' the kiss of death (as we here all know)

both of these I held less than a month for these excellent returns

DCTM is another software company that took a dive. I held it for a couple weeks in at 11 out 14 (currently 15 1/2)
I most always take profits and sell too early, but am darn good at finding close to bottoms and making 10 to 20% on the invested amount in not too long a time period.

These trades are posted real time, somewhere around SI

...........

NETS ... those are what you must trade to make the huge gains.

bot AOL a half dozen times, taking small losses on it the first few times .... then finally caught the bottom at 105 sold 112
bot back at 109 .... currently 126, it is now a 'hold' for several months. The bottom was 'caught'

the last few days I have been doing the same with EBAY, although the trades have been gains for mini amounts, till I find 'bottom' and then I will hold it too, for several months.

Other net stocks ... the no names ... are crap shoots.

Nets can cause the biggest losses, if you are a trader who has difficulty setting a stop loss and taking a small loss

I guess my point is .... company's get the 'one day' hammer .... overdone on fear ... they do come back, to reward nicely.
