Hi Doug,

>>technical problems that have to be overcome to make "open access" work well for the consumer<<

I am new to the thread and am particularly interested in this debate on open/close cable access. Currently sitting on the fence on this one but would be grateful if you could explain the technical problems to be overcome to make open access practical for the consumer.

Is it not possible that opening access would make all the companies pool their resources and somehow realize the solution faster? Surely, there must be a way the companies which have already invested could be compensated? Also, if there is still a long way to go to realize this, then much as they might have invested in pipes, the work is far from complete, and they probably should not be claiming full rights to access.

Just my thoughts, but like I say I still need to have a feel for the technical problems here.

rgds,

Ma
