I refer here only to the design sub-discussion on this thread. There are great suggestions here for adding functionality to the site.

That is about all there is. The discussion focuses on design because there are few 'added value' features.

If the new look also included significant new value then I think you would see more rave reviews of the beta site.

This new format will work if Go2net incorporates user feed back on a continuing basis..something that has not been done so far.

If as Bryan indicated the programming structure lends itself to custom features then it is a good place to start.

It is unfortunate that the feedback centers on only the design aspects. It is a where's the beef? issue...not much else to talk about.

So far I have found a couple of nice added features..viewing ten messages and the custom message folders. If changes are made to these options WRT user input then they are indeed value added.

OTOH some value has been lost. It is obvious that very little consideration was given to search capability...long considered an area for improvement..we had to ask for the same capability we had before.

Although design aspects are important...added value will make a bigger splash.

From a design point of view..

I would like to see Silicon Investor more prominent than A Go2Net Network Site on the top bar. Maybe we can consider ourselves lucky that the Go2Net promotion is not flashing.

One of the features of the beta that hasn't been mentioned here too much is that the new site combines the contents of two "classic" sites. SiliconInvester is both the classic SI and the former StockSite.

StockSite used a flashy, almost "aggressive" design that was about as far removed as one could get from the design of SI. Here, for instance, is the classic StockSite's MarketMonitor: stocksite.com
And this is what it looks like now: beta.siliconinvestor.com

Here's the classic upgrades/downgrades page: stocksite.com
...and its current iteration: beta.siliconinvestor.com

Here's the classic "IPO Monitor": stocksite.com
...which now looks like this: beta.siliconinvestor.com

Here's Fleckenstein's column in the classic: stocksite.com
...and in its new makeup: beta.siliconinvestor.com

What's happening? All those pages have a consistent look that makes them instantly identifiable as SI pages. The pages have become simpler. The flash is gone, so that what is emphasized in all these examples (as it is on the message boards) is the information, which has, incidentally, been markedly improved in many cases.

And now for a wish list item: IQC has a fine collection of pages in its "education section" at iqc.com. I hope they get the SI look and are added to this site eventually.
