Regarding Friday's run-up in ASYM:

You may have seen on CNBC the interest and recent run-up of HGSI, Human Genome Sciences, Inc. Well yesterday, as a sympathy play, traders/investors were buying a company called Affymetrix (AFFX). It was up 7 7/8 or 13.55% on the day.

Yesterday, when I noticed that ASYM was up on no new news, I happened to be watching CNBC at the time. I heard Joe Kearnen talking about "Affymetrix." My ears perked up, because at first, I thought he was talking about Asymetrix. Well, it certainly sounded like "Asymetrix." (One letter off. And F often sounds like S.) I assumed this was one of those situations where uninformed investors were buying the wrong stock!

So, I tried to short ASYM around 3:40pm, on the assumption that once traders realized what they were buying, they would dump the stock. No luck, as there were no shares available to short. My opinion is that this stock will come back to earth next week.

Adam

P.S. I wouldn't normally short companies in the Wired World Portfolio, but when you see an oppty. like this, it's foolish to pass up.
