Well I really like Spike Lee. Some of his scripts don't quite grab me, but I think this one will... but hes certainly a suberb filmmaker dispite the "attitude" (but then they all have that!

Anyway Gene Siskel was lobbying hollywood for a long time about a new rating for these R-rated films that should be X. Of course the film review board won't give a film an X rating these days for business reasons, so there is nowhere for these adult films to go but R. I mean if Boogie Nights can't even get an X rating, I don't know what can. That was a movie about porn with full nudity! sheesh.

On Eyes Wide Shut the only thing I wonder about is the casting. Cruise and Kidman are awfully wholesome... Kubrick wanted Baldwin and Basinger and I'll just bet they would have added a little more darkness to it.... not that I mean to discount Cruise and Kidman, they are both great, but not all films are good for every actor. I recently saw Breakfast at Tiffanys again and continue to believe that that was the worst casting of all time with Audrey Hepburn. Truman Capote wanted Marilyn Monroe and that would have been a great film. B at T's was good anyway but it could have been better with a more believable actress I think.
