Pledge assets to who(m)? To a financing company.

See: If they get back the money from soon to follow ('just around the corner) deals, they would do an interim short term financing. If they believe they will not repay "cash" but let the market (read: common shareholder) pay the bill, then they do such a financing.

And there are even some humble presidents out who advance cash to their companies at favorable (for the company) terms...., being dedicated to reward long term shareholders.
