You're right, JLA, platitudes can be too inoculous for a summary. To rephrase, the people I respect who see things simply have had their moral insight burned in by tragedy. They do not come to these discussions. Those who see morality and people as simple, and do come here, have a problem. When you interrupt an ongoing discussion with only generalities, you demonstrate your problem is similar to the President's...putting people down to feel your power. An apologist would call such behavior discussion and debate.
