You have to comingle arkitekshure with hardware as they become inseparable after a while. Most of our glitch complaints are to do with in DOS mixing two types of code, non multi tasking which thinks it owns the machine and suspend tasking (WIN-XXX)which pretends it is multi-tasking.

In Linux we see when loading hardware and configuring that it is very hard to get machines to do things they were not intended to do such as use all kinds of services at once in an optimally sharing way when there is too much device contention load for even a Solomon like task switcher on Optima-Soma with neural networking megalo mania to even handle.

(Optima-soma is the drug sys admins use when installing broken hardware on broken software.) It prevents whole cities being trashed if they (SA's) have their finger on nuclear triggers. Another solution is to have a cage full of cats and a rusty butcher knife hanging on the wall. A bit messy but it saves human life.

I think Eros is another one destined for forget city. The head honcho has departed from code snaveling to grope at IBM. Once killed they never come back. If Eros has a fanatic game playing following it would live on, but a headless committee and no file system.. no code.. no GUI.. well, it has to succeed.

Only OS more forlorn is NetLinux. No code, no money, no hope. but a great idea. It is 1000's more commercial then Eros or even Beos and Linux. It can run all the X applications, all the Linux apps and its own! Pretty good for a system that is not even built yet huh?

I agree with not always being free software. It's ok to say you are, but being it is not a good bottom line. One has to be more flexible than Microsoft when starting our. Later we can insist on site licenses that include taking parts of one's family hostage.

Netlinux the New GUI for all ages.

So, awhile back, I picked up this Osborne 1 from a thrift shop in Eureka for $5. They were asking $10, but it didn't have any documentation or diskettes. Otherwise, everything is intact and functioning.

What can I do with this? Is there a way to download *that CPM OS onto DOS 5 1/4 floppies? Is there a way to replace the CPU and still use the 5" screen (like with Palm OS, Chorus, or even Linux)?

Is there a way to just gut it and use it as a big ass lunch box?
