Thanks for the kind words. I have to disagree on your idea to maintain parallel sites to test for popularity, though.

Like most betas, this one is not a trial to determine whether to go forward, but when and how to go forward. It's to gather bugs for fixing and feedback on how the new version could be improved by adding things not thought of or smoothing rough edges not seen by the developers as rough.

I believe all discussion about going back to the original SI is a waste of time. SI has important reasons (see BryanB's posts) to change SI, including backend structural issues, efficiency issues, consistency issues, as well as business and marketing issues. These reasons don't go away just because many people prefer the old version.

My thoughts are to use this beta time as an opportunity to change the things that we have a chance to, and focus the developers on what we see as valuable improvements. That way, SI gets what it wants and we do too. Their current idea of mostly structural changes now and feature improvements later may change if they see how strongly we feel about some of the proposed new features.
