Why Skeets, what a surprise to find you slumming over here in the RMBS thread! I can feel your refreshing blast of hot air all the way down here in Sao Paulo, even tho' its dead of winter here! How much have you shorted? Enough to make up for your AMAT losses? Let's see if I can remember last November..... AMAT overvalued @ $25, right? Whaddya say we invite Ramsey Su over and we can all have a Chicken Little party together?

Seriously tho', one factor we can't discount is: once DRAM mfr'ers introduce RDRAM RIMM's etc., they will finally have a product w/ Gross Margin (for a change). GM. You seem to have forgotten to factor that one into your eloquent discussions re: elasticity. Once they get over the capex cash hump, there's happy times ahead, even for them (until we get a volume driven drop in prices, of course).

Best regards,

BP

Skeeter,

dave, if i can pull the 1-2% rev growth for pcs and 20% unit growth, we will agree that is bad economics for an industry that wants to tack on 12-25% onto their product for minimal improvement outside of certain niche markets, correct?

If you can find those numbers, tell me where you found them and I'll check out the report. It's possible you're misremembering them. It's possible that the report is about an aberration in time (e.g. Compaq's stuffing the channel move in Q4 in the last two years) and you missed that point. You may have made any number of mistakes or misrepresentations in reporting those numbers. I've had to correct a couple of my own in the last two weeks you probably noticed. Since you can't remember where you saw them, I think it's very possible that you're not remembering them correctly.

the reason i haven't posted that is b/c i expect other folks to know what is happening in the industries they invest in. iow, i don't consider myself cbs news to the si community. i will ask around, though, and try to dig it up. a lot happens in one or two months and i'm not able to commit to memory every single news link i see.

No one here remembers every piece of data correctly. If you have a credible source, it's important to us. If you're just making stuff up, then it's not. Just let us know.
