As a libertarian/conservative, I think it's unfortunate and unfair to imply that conservatives are racist. I believe in minimal government, which means that a lot of social programs would be, and should be, unfunded, at least with federal tax money. That doesn't equate, in my mind, with hatred of poor people or non-whites. But that's the way my position is painted in the popular press. Liberals, like Clinton, believe that it is the job of the federal government to solve social ills using federal tax money. I disagree. I am, however, a social liberal, in the sense that I believe in the freedom, rights, and dignity of individuals no matter what race, creed, color, culture, sex, or sexual orientation, and I am opposed to any acts by government or individuals to injure or harm people because of race, creed, color, culture, sex, or sexual orientation. On the other hand, I also oppose any acts by government to promote or benefit any person on the basis of race, creed, color, culture, sex, or sexual orientation.

I think I am consistent, and I am not a racist. And I think that, at least on paper, most conservatives feel the way I do, for the most part. Well, I know it's much more complicated than that, boy, is it ever! But I can't think of any genuine conservative that is a racist.
