It only gave guidelines, you gotta make it up as you go. But be sincere. I guess when your wife has a future batter on deck it makes saying the right thing a little more critical.

Correct Response to the "Jean Question"

*****

First, take a serious look at the jeans... your brow should be slightly furrowed... mouth held steady in a slight frown... then emit a contemplative.... "Hmmmmm.."

Then.... sounding decisive, make the following strategic reply (be emphatic when uttering the upper case words):

"Honey, you look fine to me.... (slight pause)... After all, you KNOW how much I HATE the look of anorexic women"

Now, immediately redirect the conversation onto a safer subject....

My husband used to say, "Well, of course you've gained a little weight. You're pregnant. But you're still beautiful. And you'll lose it after you have the baby."

Then he said, "Well, of course you're a little overweight. You just had a baby. It just takes time. But you're still beautiful."

Then it was, "Well, you didn't gain it in a day, and you aren't going to lose it in a day. But you're still beautiful."

Now it's, "You'd probably feel better if you lost weight. But you're still beautiful."

And the proper answer with respect to the pants is: "They look fine."
