There is also another scholar/anthropologist,Lowell Holmes, (Isn't that a great name- it just reeks of class and credibility)
attacking Freeman's attacking of Mead-
Mead was attempting to prove that nurture dictated behavior by finding a society in which the typical Sturm und Drang of adolescence didn't occur. Freeman is a "nature" advocate. People lined up according to their favorite theory. There is some question about the thoroughness of Mead's methods, she was very young, and whether she had predetermined what she would find but Dr. Holmes asserts her book isn't nearly the disaster Freeman tries to paint it. He makes his own accusations about Freeman's motivation.
And so the debate rages on.
Academics is a nasty, vicious business.

Your Russian language lesson was terrifying.

My erstwhile partner, the troglodyte, is 100% Irish, and very proud of it. One of the jokes he always tells is, "What is the definition of a queer Irishman? One who prefers women to drink."
