My god people, the y2k will not be as disastrous as you all think, unless of course you live in China, which is in a total state of denial.

Personally, I think n.a. will be fine, maybe a few blackouts and some disruptions in the first week of the new year but nothing to the extent of living in underground caverns. True that the Nuclear weapon launches or false alarms appearing on radar may be something to worry about but I can assure you that governments of those countries, primarily us and russia, have or will agree on preventative measures to ensure security.

The only thing that I should worry about, if i lived in the U.S. (i live in canada), is the availability of water and communcications.

Too many people are paranoid about the y2k, it won't be that bad, hopefully, if it is, i always have the protection of my igloo. :)

Bald Eagle; RECOMMENDED PREPARATION LIST:

Ask any questions at any time and disregard the flamers who object!

Your prep list is good so far.

Based on my several thousand hours of research and analysis, here is the list I recommend, assuming it is affordable,at least in part, and based on my philosophy that when personal/family survival and way of life is at risk, over-preparing is senior to under-preparing.

1. 1 year minimum, per person, dehydrated, or better yet, freeze-dried foods, supplemented by canned goods, etc., and espically dried pasta products. Definately store up on a lot of gravy products, as they can always enrich the taste of otherwise drab foods, and only need heating.

2. As many thousands of gallons of water as you have room for, along with a superior filtration system. Estimate 2 gallons per day per person for drinking and other uses.

3. Generators likely will not be sufficient due to too little fuel, city codes and other individual issues. If you can afford it, solar by all means, altho cost for minimal usage can be $20,000 up. Danger is a waste of money if pollyanna senario occurs. Other main danger of either system is that they will be BEACONS for looters, arsonists, and jealous neighbors.

4. If no generators/solar, DEFINATELY GET SEVERAL BATTERY-POWERED LATERNS, INSTEAD OF CANDLES, OIL LAMPS or other similiar, as battery powered ones are the ONLY safe ones!! The number of fires that will be caused by candles, etc., from accidental and careless use may be beyond belief! They are cheap- get one for each room.

5. Batteries for 1-2 years for all conceivable uses!

6. Toilet paper- as many large units as you have room for- this will prove to be one of the best products of all for barter/sale!

7. PETS- food and toys and other misc products for them for 1-3 years!
Prepare carefully for their needs and realize that THEY WILL BE VERY, VERY SUSEPTIBLE TO HARMFUL FUMES INDOORS FROM PETROL / CHEMICAL BASED PRODUCTS,ETC., SUCH AS FROM OIL LAMPS, CANDLES,also from WOOD-BURNING STOVES, FIREPLACES, ETC, ETC!

REMEMBER THIS- when city-wide rioting occurs, as well as in very cold weather, you will find yourself keeping your windows closed far, far than in normal times--PRODUCTS THAT BURN OXYGEN, HAVE LITTLE /NO VENTILATION, AND GIVE OFF CARBON MONOXIDE, ETC. CAN KILL YOUR PETS!!!

8. VERY, VERY VITAL!!!!!!!
Spend a lot of time listing all products you use, that are crucial, necessary or important to have.

Buy reserves of any of those you cannot easily do without, IN THE EVENT THAT THEY MAY NOT BE AVAILABLE FOR WEEKS...MONTHS...INDEFINATELY..and particularly those manufactured, assembled overseas, that require foreign parts or labor, or any non-local products......Actually, I would store reserves of all vital American products too, but bet on foreign products having even far greater risk of becoming unavailable or being in such short supply as to be unaffordable!

You will be shocked at how many products you will put down on your list as those you cannot or cannot easily or conveniently do without!

If you don't buy reserves of any given one, don't be upset if you will be without it for weeks...months...or indefinately!!!!!!!!

This list is just for starters....
