there would have been no Microsoft as we know it without both Gates and Allen.

You make a good point, Gates seems to be given all the credit, when in fact, he was not alone.

To set the record straight, I agree that there probably wouldn't have been a Microsoft if there hadn't been a Paul Allen. He had vision and saw opportunity when it presented itself. If he hadn't dropped the Popular Mechanics showing the Altair in front of Gates... Microsoft as we know it may not exist.

However, Paul Allen had to take early retirement due to illness. That's why I used Gates as the example when it comes to working long hours to realize a dream. From 1984? through today, Gates is the one who was chasing the vision.

I think I was just rambling because I want Go2Net to have broadband yesterday. I am sure these guys are busting their humps to realize a common dream. And, I'm sure they feed off each other and keep each other motivated.

I agree that Paul Allen is the visionary surrounding himself with a team of intelligent, driven individuals. I didn't include him earlier because I figured the younger guys who are building their first empire should work longer hours. Paul gets to sleep more since he already did this with Microsoft. <gg>

And, I bought Go2Net strictly because Paul Allen invested in it. It wasn't until after I purchased the stock that I started reading about Horowitz, Keister and the others and realized how "smart" this investment was. I know, I know, that's not the way to buy stock. But I was brand new to investing and I figured if Paul Allen bought it, it must be a "diamond in the rough."

RTev, You always have good insight. When do you think we will see announcements from the Go2Net/Charter group announcing broadband capabilities? Do you think it is quite a ways off? Remember in the internet world, time accelerates and you have to get there quick!!

As with all technology, "the early bird gets the worm".
