<< Sygate/Syshield Wingate...are these programs really necessary? Are there any free alternatives?... Win 98 Second edition comes with (ics) internet connection sharing.

I have my lan conection to the internet for both computers...I just haven't hurdled the filesharing problem...aren't these above programs concerned w/ security? Sounds like you only need to add the IPX/SPX and/or NetBEUI protocals into your Network {control panel} and then Add Client for Microsoft Networks {primary network login}... click on File and printer shareing. Verify the work group names, and your done. Then you should set the shareing levels on each device... like the HD's. I suggest double access levels. Hutch. 2 computers, cablemodem.

Jeff, my 2¢ worth. You share files with your LAN. You share one internet connection ( 1 phone line ) between two or more computers with Sygate/Wingate or as Mike mentioned win98 2nd edition. As for FREE, Sygate, (Sean's favorite, I agree) can be downloaded free. After you transfer 100MB between computers (this will take a long time, enough to get going at least) then you will have to pay $39 for the program if you decide to keep it. Wingate will require you to pay $39 before you can download the program. Try Sygate first. Regards, /jw

Dual CPU's & Win'2000 to Become Fashionable? as Intel keeps pushing back the availability of faster CPUs, and slower Dual CPU's produce even better performance in Win'NT, don't you think Dual CPU's will be the way to go Xmas?
