<Saturn V - re: Intel SSE is a weapon which is not yet widely appreciated. Intel has a compiler which generates SSE optimized code. If bench marks are recompiled for SSE, the Pentium III will outperform the K-7, even on flating point benchmarks>

From this paragraph I conclude that you have no foggiest idea of what you are talking about. May be you can elaborate to prove me wrong?

Kap.

Saturn V,

<It takes a long time to establish premium brands>

At least as important as time, probably more so, are resources. Intel spent millions and millions of dollars establishing the Intel Inside and Pentium trademarks. They continue to spend millions promoting the PIII. One of AMD's biggest problems is that they don't have the resources to take this approach.

I have not posted for the last several weeks, and have spent time dwelling on extent of the possible impact of the K-7

And, as usual, you have probably nailed it again. Thanks, Saturn V.

Best Trading,
X

I totally agree with your analysis, especially part 5. AMD is trying to enter a market where price is not the only factor. AMD's image as a maker of "cheap" chips will make it hard to gain a significant foothold in this market, no matter how good the K-7 design.
