I agree. The Democrats played hardball, and Darman pushed the deal, partly because he was a deficit hawk, and partly because the Democrats were threatening to hold Administration goals hostage. It was a reasonable decision, and took some political courage, since he could expect to get roasted. One of the few times I was really angry at Newt Gingrich was when he lead the House rebellion on the budget agreement. I thought it was disloyal. Anyway, I think that George W. is right to play it close to the vest, and let his record in Texas speak for itself. If he can cut, he will cut...
