The PC business has had thin margins for as long as I can remember. Profits have not been easy to come by and have primarily gone to the most efficient manufacturer, which is DELL at this time, was CPQ a decade ago.

To send $270 to the bottom line on 1 $3000 sale or to send $300 to the bottom line on 11 $300 sales is not much different from a shareholder's perspective.

For those companies having difficulty sending money to the bottom line, I'd agree with your point. For Dell, they have a fundamental principal of doing business profitably or exiting the business. ... and I haven't seen any signs of them exiting anything recently.
