>>The plant at Boulder is for optical drives and ZipCD is the platform on which they will be built.<<

??? So... CD-RW is the platform on which Iomega is hinging its hopes? What future optical products? Whatever they are, they will have to be significantly faster or larger capacity than anything out there. CD-R/W is the entrenched Standard, and more and more desktop machines from Dell, Compaq, and Gateway are being configured with them. And prices are cheap.

As for larger capacity and speed, DVD-RAM and upcoming DVD+RW drives are both. And these products are also commodity items = low margins for Iomega. This is just what's killing Iomega, is the low margins.

What "value-added" can Iomega possibly bring to the optical table? To be truthful, I wish a smaller form factor optical disk encased in plastic would be nice...wait a minute... I just described Sony's Minidisk!
