If LSI were a small company that would work - does not work
as well now when LSI has to build $1b+ fabs and won't work as well going forward unless the end markets cooperate or there are changes in the model (LSI being a fab for 3rd parties - Malay deal). Great ideas (SOC etc) can make employees richer and even mgt richer but the amount left to shareholders can diminish if the great idea does not become a great money making idea.

I can invent/discover a cure for one of the most baffling diseases in the world but if the end market is too small or I can't produce my product at low enough costs or whatever, the only person who likely did well was me - the shareholders in the long run lose out. [In the short run, if you can 'trick' other idiots into believing your story - ex: some internet stocks and one hit wonders - and you get in early you can make a lot of money. But I consider this 'fraud' not 'investing' - it is more good PR and good salesmanship - 'selling of the story'.]

Replace baffling disease with SOC and you have the LSI story with its poor ROE. But things are changing...
