I have seen a few hot places in my time, and I can think of few that are less pleasant in 100 degrees-plus heat than New York City.

It's the six months of hot weather that makes living in the deep South tough, though. It gets very hot elsewhere, but not for six months at a time. None of us like days with 100 plus degrees, but weeks of them are painful and debilitating. And it is well-established that high humidity makes high temperature feel hotter, because your sweat doesn't evaporate.
