It is considered by historians to be quite possible that Tchaikovsky was "encouraged" to commit suicide by people who threatened to expose his lifestyle if he did not "do the honorable thing." He was at the time more or less a Russian national icon and may have preferred to preserve his legacy. But no one knows for certain.

Well, I read an article last week (in Newsweek, I believe, but I'm not sure) about George Washington's sex life. There is a black family in America which is going through DNA testing because they believe they are direct descendants, but what I found more interesting was the reference to a wild infatuation with ALEXANDER HAMILTON!!! This is in keeping with an old story that has been passed down in the family of my grandmother's last husband, a very religiously conservative old American family whose members are pained to acknowledge that my Uncle Clarence's great-great-uncle had a homosexual relationship with George Washington. My own opinion, in response to your post, is that people are sexual beings, and that all through time, there has been plenty of experimentation of all sorts. In societies without enough willing women it is hard to imagine that men did not use each other to fulfill themselves, and went right on considering themselves he-men!
