Actually, I am incredibly surprised at the "tolerance" that some great Americans give to these bastards, particularly when some equally great Americans were killed in Europe fighting a war that was caused by one son of a bitch leading a bunch of similar bastards... As a strange coincidence, I spent Sunday late afternoon, talking with one of the survivors of "D day"... we had a great time exchanging ideas, and thoughts, not only about the war but about many other subjects. He answered many questions of mine, but in parts of his descriptions, understandably, he would hesitate. No, he was not someone blinded with passion, but recognized the danger of the situations, he related to me that 70 % of his men were wiped out on the landing... <snap>, just like that [he was a captain during the war]. And in some other cases, the loss ratio was as high as 80%.
I must say, it was a great and rewarding day.... [in spite of my HIGH...and low of my earlier golf game].
As we said good bye, his wife told me that for a long time, he refused to talk about the war, and in particular about D day... Yet she recognized, [and so did he], that it was good for him to do so.
I almost had a coronary when Lilly headed away that shot off the corner kick in extra time. great game.
I had this, non stoppable nervous laugh, after that play <g>... it would not stop until the US scored the fifth, and winning goal...
It is always a shame to have a final [or any game] decided in such fashion, but after 120 minutes... what do you go by ?
