Yahoo goes mobile in Germany

LONDON--Yahoo has joined forces with German mobile telephone operator
Mannesmann Mobilfunk to deliver Internet services to telephone handsets.

In a statement late yesterday, Yahoo said subscribers with a correctly enabled mobile
phone would have quick and easy access to Yahoo Germany's Internet programming.
Access would be free of charge except for the cost of the call.

The agreement marks the first of Yahoo Europe's local ventures to use a delivery platform
other than personal computers, the statement said.

Mannesmann Mobilfunk is a joint venture between Mannesmann and U.S.-based AirTouch
Communications, recently acquired by Britain's Vodafone Group.

Yesterday Yahoo and British pay-TV broadcaster BSkyB said they agreed to a
broad-based marketing deal spanning TV and the Internet in Britain and Ireland.

The agreement extends the alliance announced earlier this year between Yahoo and
Rupert Murdoch's News Corporation, which owns 40 percent of BSkyB.

<<I presume that the primary customer contact efforts will remain with the carriers on the front line with LOR/G* 'hiding' in the rear as wholesaler--that does NOT mean that they can sit back and leave the driving to others however.>>

Leaving the driving to others sounds like a recipe for disaster to me Mike, as I'm sure it does to you. I expect to see a comprehensive, centralized G* marketing program that also contains well-defined parameters within which each of the partners can customize their own programs. I can hardly imagine it being any other way and trust (hope?) that this is the G* plan. ...Tim

Globalstars Customer Focus

Thanks Mike for the consensus opinion that CUSTOMER RULES. Based on whats happening to Iridium, I fear that G* is not out of the woods until they prove they can supply a reliable, easy to use, cost effective product. Looks like the market is anticipating that they can and I'm elated to see we have the confidence of the street. However the tide can turn quickly on any negative feedback from disappointed customers, or lack of confirmation of market demand. These risks are very real and won't be answered until Sept-Dec as early adopters climb aboard. Hope to have some genuine feedback from SI thread members who become early customers. If we clear performance hurdle and show some firm demand, this BABY WILL SOAR. Strap yourself in, and get ready for the ride of a lifetime.
