EIGHT-N,
I would think that there should be a thin serpentinized, clay rich selvage on the footwall and hangingwall...the implication is that the kimberlite should break cleanly from the countryrock which is paragneiss and granite.....the country rock should be very stable. Stable roofrock means little dilution from sluffing and scaling and lower costs associated with supporting the workings(no jacking or timbering required).....cemented backfill not only allows removal of all the kimberlite, but resolves most environmental issues associated with tailings as much of the milled rock ends up going back into the workings.....
regards,
teevee
