Ken,
Although your article doesn't mention it, I'm certain MSFT made the investment in Rogers for the same reasons it has in AT&T/TCI deal. It's for access to the set-top boxes. As you know, they want to put their CE operating system on it. I'm guessing MSFT is going to downplay this aspect because they don't want to be attacked either(like AT&T is regarding this ISP issue).

As far as the Canadian government saying the MSOs must open up their network, it's...well maybe I better not say. Don't want to start a political discussion.

I'm still waiting for AOL to work a large deal with a telco for DSL service to AOL's customers. If they do, then it's pretty clear what their strategy has been all along. Delay, delay, delay (while AOL works out their broadband plans). Come to think of it, since GTE clearly knows how to build an HFC network (they built the one I'm on from scratch), maybe that is why GTE jumped in and tried to help AOL make it's point. GTE may also be trying to delay, delay, delay.

All this posturing by AOL&Company in the US is really a moot point. I believe we all know ultimately how Kennard feels. And once the federal government steps in, all these local squabbles will be over with.
