coby: I've been looking at this internet thing. Back in my physicist days when I could solve nonlinear partial differential equations by hand, there was a whole class of things that look like the black-scholes options equations but they were used for missile guidance systems and directed propagation of communication data. Betcha anything these hedge funds have a "missile lab" where they optimize the nonlinear equations with Monte Carlo simulation. The game is to own the stock pre-IPO. All they do when they launch an IPO is launch a financial missile, inject money into it at the right places to get the trajectory, and collect on the options. These derivatives things are so complicated that they can run on fuel from the direction of gold prices and the Nikkei....and nobody would ever know.
IMHO the company and employees are thin veneer. They're not even needed.
