The Fonix product is a VTT and handwriting application software targeted at hospitals. It does not seem to include any hardware, other than a microphone. The VTT software is very expensive (approximately $100,000 per installation according to a news story on the website.)

It does not appear to be much of a direct competitor to the Lanier product suite.

It seems that Lucent has expressed some interest in using the handwriting recognition software, according to another story on the site dated 2/4/99:

"Allegro is the product Lucent will use in its Inferno venture, according to Wednesday's announcement. Inferno's mission is to provide access tools for non-PC computing appliances that would be used to retrieve information like phone numbers, stock quotes and news from the Internet."

By the way, when the Lucent news was released, the stock spiked to $3.31/share from $0.91/share and has since tailed off to a recent low of $0.25/share, prior to today's jump to $1.25 on news of their connection to a voice e-mail service.

Again, no direct competition to e.Digital that I can perceive.

Not connected that I'm aware of. Agreed with JimC that it isn't direct competition either. Could be a potential customer down the road, though. IMHO
Best, Savant
