If you believe Jim Cramer at TSC, the published short figures are hopelessly incomplete in telling the full story. Remember that market maker shorts are not reported, and you can also get shorts involving options that won't show up in the reported figures, but will still ultimately impact the price.

I was scanning through the Yahoo thread the other day (while waiting for a program to finish running) and noticed at least one fairly sophisticated short - i.e., one who knows enough details to sound superficially plausible.

Actually I tend not to be a great believer in the theory that it's the evil shorts / the evil MMs that are manipulating the stock price. More likely it's just some <5% institution selling and you'll never find out who.
