I don't think the Goldman Hull link up raises any conflict of interst issues. There are plenty of other players in both spaces.

I notice the article mentions Goldman and EGRP both holding stakes in Archipelago. Goldman also holds a large stake in WITC which is developing a 24/7 trading system. (full disclosure statement-I have a position in WITC as well but not quite as large as GS's <g>)

I would say the more the merrier, and best if it is with firms who are reputable. Will this become a "fragmented series of exchanges, where each particular ECN deals in specific type of securities, that could interconnect with each other ?

Intersting.

What would be more interesting yet is if these new exchanges would NOT be based in the US... say, they could be based in the Bahamas, or Bermuda, or Costa Rica... just to name a few examples...

I wonder if there is already similar ideas being floated out there, after all all an exchange would need:

1. the technology to make it possible.

2. a number of market makers making a market in specific stocks/futures/derivatives.

3. a "sponsorship" by a large reputable firm or equivalent.

4. a start-up group of investors.

Hey, maybe WITC would be interested in launching their own, except in stead of being based in the US, they could be offshore....

Just an idea.

Thanks for the info.
