"To ALL: OT and Scary:Very Important: Copied from AOL Board--
<snip>
The last few months have revealed an alarming trend in the Government of the United States attempting to quietly push through legislation that will affect your use of the Internet. Under proposed legislation the U.S. Postal Service will be attempting to bilk email users out of "alternate postage fees."

Bill 602P will permit the Federal Govt to charge a 5 cent surcharge on every email delivered, by billing Internet Service Providers at source. The consumer would then be billed in turn by the ISP."
---

This is a hoax - it's made the rounds of the 'net several times.

Another good reason to ignore what you read on AOL :).

How about 96 by tomorrow, 100 by Wed, 102 by Thu and 105 by Fri?
Then a gap up to 110 after earnings? Far fetched?

Another site worth checking for those "Congress is about to do this..." things that float around is this one:

thomas.loc.gov

It lets you search all bills by number or keyword. "602P" is an invalid number even if it were preceded by one of the valid keys for bills ("h.r." or "s."). A keyword search for "internet" or "e-mail" reveals no such bill.

Several come up with "e-mail", but none seem to have a taxing element: Examples: H.R. 1901 is an anti-spam bill that sets definitions and penalties for that. S. 809 is a "privacy" act prohibits ISPs from releasing certain information about their users.

Hey! This is the MSFT thread, not the "gov watchdog" thread. All I care about is MSFT's stock price appreciating. Nothing more, nothing less. We already know the gov is fixed, so why bother pointing out the obvious? Your rumor has been claimed to be false by the U.S. Postal Service since May. Think before ye post, man, think!

What's a solid citizen like you doing prowling the AOL boards? Better stick to your own neighborhood, John. Those bad boys have you spreading Urban Legends <g>.
