''Nortel Networks' provides us with a highly-scalable, cost-effective platform that guarantees secure networking across the Internet.''

The Nexxia.IP VPN Remote Access and Extended Community services are built upon Nortel Networks' award-winning Contivity Extranet Switch. Nexxia.IP VPN service portfolio offers a fully-managed, cost-effective alternative to traditional remote access services (RAS) for enterprises seeking securely connected teleworkers, mobile workers or a distributed workforce to the corporate Intranet or Extranet.

Nortel Networks Helps Business Partners Evolve Their Companies to Maximize Unified Networks Solutions Opportunities

Business Exchange Program'' Offers Business Partners Resources,

Education and Support Needed to Bring Customers Unified Networks

SANTA CLARA, Calif., July 13 /PRNewswire/ - Nortel Networks (NYSE/TSE: NT) today announced the Nortel Networks Business Exchange Program. The Business Exchange Program provides Nortel Networks' Business Partners (channel partners) the information and resources they require to design, deploy, service and support Unified Networks solutions for their customers.

Unified Networks environments empower a new era of business solutions by creating a single communications infrastructure for telephony, video, and data. For enterprise and small business customers, Unified Networks solutions enable revolutionary applications and deliver new economics. Customers implementing converged voice/data infrastructures, face a myriad of new products and technologies, leading them to rely more than ever on their solutions integrator or reseller for advice on designing, implementing and supporting the solution that best fits their needs. For solutions integrators, VARs and consultants to maximize the business opportunities afforded by converged networks, they require vendor support -- beyond technology and product training.

As the demand for Unified Networks environments explodes, so will the need for Business Partners who can help customers make the most of them,'' said Nick Pegley, vice president of Worldwide Business Partner Marketing, Nortel Networks. ''To remain successful Business Partners will focus on evolving their business models, to offer customers a single source for the equipment and services that compose an integrated voice/data network. We designed the Business Exchange Program to help our Business Partners emerge as leaders in this new era of networking.''

The core elements of the Business Exchange Program are available to Nortel Networks Business Partners globally. Information on the Nortel Networks Business Partner Program is available at nortelnetworks.com.

The Business Exchange Program offers resources designed to help Business Partners succeed in selling Unified Networks products and their own value-added services. Nortel Networks' extensive portfolio of end-to-end voice and data products enables Business Partners to offer their customers a comprehensive, robust, state of the art, single vendor solution. Resources Nortel Networks is making available to its Business Partners include:

- Insightful third-party perspectives on the effect of technology

convergence on resellers from companies such as MSI Consulting and the

Gartner Group;

- Resources for evaluating new business models and creating a compelling

new value proposition;

- White papers;

- Information about training programs and events;

- PartnerMatch - a voluntary matchmaking program dedicated to helping

Business Partners with complementary skills and/or geographic coverage

form relationships (North America only at this time).

Much of this information is accessible at a secure web-site that is accessible only to Nortel Networks Business Partner Program participants.

As voice and data networks become more integrated, the ability to sell and support both become critical,'' said Ross Brown, vice president of Consulting, MSI Consulting Group. ''Some partners are choosing to build the skills internally to be able to sell both kinds of systems. However, for many resellers, partnering is a more attractive option. The Business Exchange program offers Nortel Networks' channel partners resources and information that will help them successfully deliver converged solutions.''

The PartnerMatch program assists Nortel Networks' Business Partners as they explore ways to partner or build alliances to offer integrated voice and data solutions. Many of these companies are interested in accessing or adding needed resources to their organizations by establishing relationships with other authorized Nortel Networks Business Partners or distributors. In response to this need, this voluntary ''matchmaking'' program helps Business Partners come together by allowing them to post a profile of their company and the type of alliance they are looking for. By forming alliances, Business Partners can offer customers a single source for telephony, data and video integration projects without having to immediately develop internal expertise.

Through the Business Exchange Program, Nortel Networks has created a foundation for synergy among its Business Partners,'' said Ross Young, senior vice president of business development and sales at Milgo Solutions, Inc. ''In this win-win environment, each partner is encouraged to add their value to the efforts of the other partners, leading to a more comprehensive and effective solution for the end customer.

On May 19, 1999, Nortel Networks hosted its first ''Business Exchange Program'' informational Webcast in conjunction with MSI consulting. The Webcast provided North American Business Partners insight into the convergence marketplace and the business opportunities available. This first Webcast was attended by over 150 Partners.
