OneMain.com Taps Phillip Gross as Director of
Engineering

VIENNA, VA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 13, 1999--

Former @Home Network Director of Engineering to Oversee OneMain's

National Network Integration Strategy

OneMain.com (Nasdaq:ONEM) today announced that Phillip Gross, former
Director of Network Engineering at @Home Network, a broadband Internet
Service Provider, has been named to oversee OneMain.com's architecture,
engineering and operations. With more than 16 years in the Internet industry,
Mr. Gross will serve as OneMain's Director of Engineering and will report to
Marty Lyons, Vice President and Chief Technology Officer.

Mr. Gross is a 25-year veteran in the computer and networking industry and
has an extensive background in research and software development and
project and product management. For the last seven years, he has focused on
network engineering, technology and product planning for Internet services.
Previously, as the initial Internet engineering director at MCI, he created and
led the engineering group responsible for developing MCI's Internet network
service and Internet access product line.

"The appointment of Phillip Gross is another key milestone in OneMain.com's
network integration strategy," said Stephen E. Smith, chairman and chief
executive officer for OneMain.com. "His unparalleled Internet experience will
greatly aid us as we successfully link all our customers through a national
network with a shared billing platform under the OneMain.com brand."

"I am excited to work at OneMain.com and strongly believe that its vision to
create on-line geographic communities will change the way people use the
Internet," said Phillip Gross. "By building on-line communities based upon
where people live - rather than the large virtual communities that traditional
ISPs offer - OneMain.com will provide its customers with a unique online
experience and a powerful source of local content that will positively impact
their daily lives."

Among his career highlights, Mr. Gross was co-founder and seven-year chair of
the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF). He helped transform the IETF from
a limited research focus to an industry-wide Internet standards and
development body. He co-chaired the IETF Routing and Addressing group,
which led to solutions to certain growth-related architectural problems in the
Internet Protocol (IP). As IETF chair, he was instrumental in specifying the
direction and process for developing the Next Generation Internet Protocol.

Based in Vienna, Virginia, OneMain.com is one of the ten largest independent
Internet service providers with approximately 450,000 subscribers.
OneMain.com provides Internet access and related services throughout the
United States to individuals and businesses located predominantly in
communities outside large metropolitan areas. These customers have
traditionally been under-served by national on-line service providers and a great
opportunity exists to meet the growing demand for on-line services in these
markets.
