Your not wanting an ignore button because you don't see its value is a poor excuse for denying it to those who do. You can continue not to use it if it's added, but we can't use it if it's not.

Also, while it is certainly true that a good post, maybe even a gem, might be missed by using ignore, the odds don't favor it. In trying to maximize my time on SI, I'd like to be able to focus on people likely to share valuable information a/o insight. Ignoring low value posters helps me to do that.

To find the 1 good post in a hundred by ThreadMoron, I've used up the time it takes to read 100 posts by others that may have 10 good posts. I don't bet on stocks I think have poor odds and I don't want to bet on the value of posts from people with poor odds either.

On occasion, even the town idiot has something intelligent to say. If I had him on ignore I would miss his 15 minutes of fame.

On occasion there's a good post on Yahoo!'s message board, but that doesn't mean I'm going to spend all day looking for it. The ignore feature allows SI's users to increase their productivity reading SI. Increased productivity features are the types of features I was hoping to see with SI's redesign. The lack of these features has contributed to my personal disappointment with the beta.
