Hello Hector,

Let's see what the decision does to the stock tomorrow. I would expect that ATHM will not go up or down much because "Broward County" goes the way of Portland. I could be wrong. I expect to see a smattering of these types of decisions until the Media-One aquisition is complete. When that happens you are welcome to join us full time over here. Until then tell the AOL'ers on your favorite thread we said hello.

GTE, which operates the fourth-largest Internet "backbone" in the
country, says AT&T is bent on rebuilding its former monopoly and will control access to the Internet unless stopped

I just can't see how anyone can say this and keep a straight face. Even more I cant see how anyone can actually believe this absurdity. Can anyone really be that stupid?

AT&T has what 80,000 cable internet customers? If things executed flawlessly over the years and cable really does become the dominant form of internet access I'll bet AT&T will have a shot at reaching the size that AOL is today. Sounds like world domination to me.

Now for the last straw: How does mandating multiple ISP's stop AT&T's "monopoly" anyway? Wont they still own the wires? Wont they still be being paid by all the ISP's to use the wires? Seems pretty obvious that "open" access means price regulation too doesnt it?

Everytime I think I have adjusted to the stupidity of mankind I discover that I have not.
Eric

Re: Broward County vote

I read the story you posted, but a review of the commission's agenda for July 13 on Broward's site reveals no such pending vote - or any other reference to cable service for that matter.

Do you have any more information?
