Bandwidth Wars: Moody's Gives Cable Modems Nod Over DSL

Blessed with about a two-year head start, cable modems
should widen their lead over telephone digital subscriber
lines (DSL) over the next three years
and contribute
substantially to cable industry revenues according to a new study by
Moody's Investors Service.

The report, published last month, predicts that cable modems will find
their way into 7.5 million U.S. homes by the end of 2002, up from
400,000 at the end of last year and a projected 1.1 million by the
close of this year. It projects that cable modem revenues will climb
to $3.6 billion, or about 11% of overall industry revenues, by 2002,
up from $150 million in 1998 and $500 million this year.
