I knew a guy who, back in the early 80s, started the paperwork to receive SSI checks. His disability was alcoholism. They made him jump through a series of hoops and it took a few years. During this time he succeeded in quitting drinking. So when he would go to the various doctors the feds were sending him to he would pour vodka or whiskey on his shirt and lurch in there and play his role as a drunk. He eventually received a substantial lump sum and began receiving checks regularly. He has a small sail boat, several electric guitars, and a nice little pad.
