There's an article in today's El Diario on COMIBOL and cooperatives : (translated by Alta Vista)

The Mining Corporation of Bolivia has the function now to administer contracts of shared riesto and renting of its properties
The Mining Corporation of Bolivia is administering at the moment to 17 contracts of renting and/or risk shared with equal number of national, North American, Canadian and European companies for operations of exploration and operation in the departments of La Paz, Oruro and Potosí.

Additionally it maintains 86 contracts of renting to mining cooperatives with approximately associated 18 thousands in Snails, Viloco, Corocoro, Matilde, Black Stock market of La Paz; Huanuni, San jOse, Santa Fe, Japo, Morococala, Poopó, Bolivar and Machacamarca in Oruro; Catavi, Century XX, Colquechaca, Lípez and Unificada de Potosí. Of 17 contracts with mining companies, 13 correspond to shared risk and four to the leasing modality. Ten of the 17 companies are undertaking tasks of exploration in search of more positive reserves and consequently their development and operation.

The interest of the companies and cooperatives concentrates in the mineral extraction of silver or complexes with lead and zinc; whereas, the quotation of the silver without being optimal remains stable and stimulates its production. The operation of tin is now based on its depressed quotations. The contracts with companies mainly were signed from 1990 to 1998. The president of the COMIBOL, Alvaro Grates, reaffirms that he is fulfilling himself the objective to reactivate the mining in his dependent units under effective legal norms, transferring responsibilities of investment and operations to the national and international private sector.

The operation to shared risk is carried out in the mining centers of Snails, Bolivar, San Vicente and for hydroelectric generation in Yura river. Operation in renting in Corocoro, Porco and Colas Itos. Operations of exploration to risk shared in Black Hill concessions, Goya, Cobrizos, Choroma, the Seat, Future, San Antonio de Lípez and San Vicente. Exploration by means of renting in San Miguel and Tasna. The companies awardees are: Barrosquira, Comsur, Baremsa, Beautiful Valley, Bolivian Gold, the Himalayas, Samex, Andean Silver, Essex Resources, Silver Standard, Emisol, Cominesa and Pan American Silver.

Jim,

The report is with the lawyer. As a guess, we might see something this week. Based on the proposed type of production method, there should be no problem with the low POG. I'm worried about how the world is going to react........ The shit is about to hit the fan!

Can anyone confirm that there is only one brand of toilet paper to be found in Bolivia?

Regards,
