RESEARCH ALERT - Viant <VIAN.O>, AppNet started

NEW YORK, July 13 (Reuters) - Credit Suisse First Boston analyst Mark Wolfenberger started coverage of electronic commerce company AppNet Systems Inc. <APNT.O> and Internet service provider Viant Corp. Tuesday with buy ratings.

In a report, he set a $35 six-month price target on the AppNet shares.

Wolfenberger called AppNet the "only pure end-to-end e-commerce provider from front-end design through transaction outsourcing."

He also started coverage of Internet service provider Viant Corp. with a buy rating, setting a $45 year-end price target on the shares.

The "stock's recent run leaves valuation rich but upside to numbers and price target significant," Wolfenberger said.

Goldman Sachs started coverage of Viant with a rating of market outperformer, a market source said.

AppNet slipped 13/16 to 19-1/2. Viant fell 2-7/8 to 35-1/8.
