. . .More Global Economic Future. . .

Jon, and what happens when you throw into the mix "just in time" manufacturing, "up to the minute" sales figures, sales personnel that use the internet from anywhere in the world to look right into the manufacturing schedule a world away and check inventory or shipping schedules and adjust sales orders accordingly.

And we haven't even discussed communication. . . rather than getting the translator to make that call to the Pacific Rim factory, we just call up whatever data we are after on our desktop from our offices. . .

Perhaps the most overlooked point to all of this is this. . . . a massive reduction in waste. . . . no more huge overruns, due to miscommunications and the higer cost that must defray them. . . . no more overbuying of inventory to complete larger orders, due to quicker turnaround time by the wholesale suppliers to the factories.

Don't forget the increase in productivity associated simply with communication with global partners or branches. Or how about merely the "tracking" of parts, inventory or shipments. It used to be, "it was shipped, that's all I can say." Now, we log onto FedEx, UPS or other shippers and we see precisely WHERE our parts or shipments are and exactly WHEN they will be arriving. . . . . around the world.

I could go on like this all day long.

Yes, there is deflation in China. But one of the causes is simply manufacturing efficiency. . . they don't NEED to charge as much, for many of the reasons cited above and others. . .so when they don't get as much, it shows up as deflation. . . .I realize that is a simple view, but this is a very long range viewpoint.

Like we sometimes have trouble seeing the forest for the trees. . . .we sometimes fail to see the mountains and oceans for the forests.
