I thought the rule only applied to the type of order (and has nothing to do with when the order is placed).

Good-for-the-day orders will get rejected if the price is outside whatever the range is.

Good-Until-Canceled orders will always get placed--at least that has been my experience. If you are playing very volatile stocks, use GTC orders (and don't forget about them!)
