Enron's 2nd-Qtr Profit Rises 53% - Nice start to earnings season.

Houston, July 13 (Bloomberg) -- Enron Corp., the largest
U.S. power and natural-gas trader, said second-quarter profit
rose a more-than-expected 53 percent on rising sales in its
energy-trading business.

Net income rose to $222 million, or 54 cents a share, from
$145 million, or 42 cents, in the year-earlier period. That beat
the 50-cent average estimate of analysts surveyed by First Call
Corp. Sales rose 48 percent to $9.67 billion for the Houston-
based natural-gas pipeline, power and water company.
