Fujitsu to reduce output of 64-MB synchronous DRAMs

TOKYO (AFX-ASIA) - Fujitsu Ltd said it will cut the monthly output of its
64-megabit synchronous DRAM chips in the year to March 2000 from the originally
planned level of 2.5 mln.
The cut is due to falling prices.
A company spokesperson, however, said it "cannot confirm the new production
level."
The Nihon Keizai newspaper earlier reported Fujitsu plans to cut monthly
output to 2.0 mln units.
The newspaper also said as a result of this move, the ratio of Fujitsu's
DRAM output will fall to 10 pct of its total semiconductor output in the year
to March 2000.
In curtailing DRAM output, Fujitsu said it will use the idle production
lines to boost production of flash memory chips.
"Our company is making a shift to non-PC chip businesses," the spokesperson
said.
