NEWBRIDGE NETWORKS CORP - PERMIT/Director Suite 2.0 Robust VPN
Management Infrastructure Issued by TimeStep Corp. [531]

Canadian Market News from Market News Publishing, Monday, July 12, 1999 at 10:13

Enhanced scalability, simplified VPN management, and PKI support
enabled via updated product suite - TimeStep Corporation, the leading IPSec-compliant virtual private network (VPN) solution provider to the network service provider industry, announced the availability of PERMIT/Director(tm) suite 2.0. The new offering continues TimeStep's pioneering tradition of offering secure,
scalable, and flexible VPN solutions. A turnkey VPN management offering, the new 2.0 suite incorporates a set of robust tools, including centralized, automated VPN management, flexible public key infrastructure (PKI), and highly scalable directory technology.
TimeStep was the first VPN vendor to provide a management suite with an integrated PKI for automated certificate management. And now, TimeStep continues to lead the way with the new PERMIT/Director suite that enhances remote manageability of secure VPNs and scales to support millions of users. In particular, PERMIT/Director's support of Entrust/PKI(tm) 4.0 simplifies the process of adding or revoking user certificates and enforcing VPN policies from a centralized platform.

Through PERMIT/Director, network administrators can quickly and more efficiently issue or revoke attribute certificates and allocate network resources by creating multiple VPN partitions. In so doing, the PERMIT/Director suite reduces network vulnerability by minimizing the threat of access from unauthorized users. This level of flexibility is especially important in large-scale or multi-corporate VPN environments.

"As corporate and managed networks continue to grow in scale and
complexity, the vulnerability of intellectual assets is of greater
concern," said Tim Hember, president and CEO of TimeStep Corp. "TimeStep has long been a champion of VPN security, and we believe this latest version of our PERMIT/Director suite continues in that tradition. Network administrators will appreciate that they can quickly deploy a secure, large-scale VPN, while eliminating the need to manually administer key functions such as digital certification and policy management. CIOs will like the fact that they can feel more confident in the integrity of corporate communications, while protecting their investments in VPN technology."

Other features of PERMIT/Director suite 2.0 include:
* Scalable architecture - compatibility with PeerLogic's (formerly ICL) i500 v8.0 directory enables you to support millions of nodes with high performance and availability. * Automated digital certificate management - integration of Entrust/PKI 4.0 gives you greater flexibility to add or remove users quickly, easily, and automatically. Future versions of Entrust/PKI will also be backward compatible through version 4.0. * Year 2000 Compliance - Adds support for Windows NT Service Pack 4.0 and 5.0.

The feature-rich PERMIT/Director suite, including 1,000 PeerLogic i500 node licenses, is available next month at a price of $19,995. Additional i500 node licenses are available at standard prices. Current TimeStep customers can upgrade to PERMIT/Director suite 2.0 by contacting TimeStep directly.
