SANTA CLARA, Calif., July 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Attendees of the Sun storage
conference, StorEdge Symposium Products and Solutions Fair, are invited to
view the industry's first generally available switched Storage Area Network
(SAN) Fabric solution for Sun environments. The BROCADE SilkWorm(R) product
family is immediately available to Sun Channel Partners, providing customers
the ability to connect Sun servers with storage devices through a Fibre
Channel SAN, and allowing shared storage in a high-performance, manageable,
and scalable environment.
Designed to lower the total cost of ownership of data storage and enable
business continuity in today's demanding "24x7" e-business economy, the
SilkWorm 2000 product family is ideally suited for the Sun environment. The
SilkWorm 2000 family is based on significant advancements in Fibre Channel
fabric technology and software. BROCADE SilkWorm switches are the defacto
standard for connecting servers with storage devices through a Fibre Channel
network, enabling companies to access and share storage in a high-performance,
scaleable SAN.

Highlights of BROCADE's StorEdge demonstration include:

* BROCADE SilkWorm -- Features two SilkWorm 2400s in a heterogeneous
(Unix and NT) SAN to showcase the 2.0 release of BROCADE's Fabric
Services. Services include Fabric OS(TM), Quick Loop(TM), BROCADE WEB
TOOLS, and BROCADE ZONING.
* Unix Zone -- Features a Sun Ultra 2 connected to SilkWorm 2400 via a
Loop port connection dynamically configured by Fabric OS 2.0. This
connection will demonstrate how Fabric OS will reroute the
traffic without user intervention if the inter-switch links (ISLs)
fail. Also demonstrated in the Unix Zone are fabric connections using
BROCADE QuickLoop 2.0, enabling private host, Ultra 2 (with a SOC+ Host
Bus Adapter), to private storage connections, A5000 JBOD, in a fabric
environment without requiring a special driver or HBA configuration. In
addition, the Ultra 2 will be running BROCADE WEB TOOLS 2.0, a
JAVA-based, graphical user interface (GUI) for routine management of
the SAN.
* NT Zone -- A Compaq ProLiant (a public loop NT host) is connected to
the Sun A5000 via a Loop port connection on a SilkWorm switch. This
connection will demonstrate BROCADE's Fabric OS in translative mode,
which allows a public loop NT host device and a private loop Sun
storage device, to communicate across the Fabric without requiring a
special driver or HBA configuration.
* BROCADE ZONING 2.0 -- BROCADE ZONING is policy-based and distributed
software that enables hardware-enforced fabric segmentation in
multi-switched fabrics. In this demonstration ZONING has segmented the
Fabric to permit the NT host to only see specified storage devices. In
particular, because the Unix host communicates to the A5000 in
QuickLoop, the Fabric is zoned to prevent the NT from seeing the Unix
storage. This ensures data storage integrity of both the NT and Unix
hosts.
