There are no antiviral treatments available for the disease, the company said. "This is the first study of an antiviral drug for a severe form of the common cold that has yielded such positive results when the drug was given after the symptoms began," Ronald B. Turner, Head of Pediatric Infectious Diseases, Medical University of South Carolina, who participated in the study, said in a statement. Viral respiratory infection is an upper respiratory infection is often referred to as the common cold. If the infection progresses to the sinuses or lower respiratory tract, it can cause sinusitis, ear infections, bronchitis and pneumonia.
