I thought that we gave each other a great deal of latitude, by this time. The topic is particularly sensitive though. Many of us do not agree with truedog's take on the matter, but do not want to dump on him, when he is generally a good fellow, and is basing it on a sincere reading of Scripture....

I have a theory as to why there's still freedom of religion in this country... it's because the church is ineffective.

If the church were effective there would be no social security, medicare, ad nauseum.. there would be no need for social programs if the church were doing its job.

So the fed lets us "play church" because we're not really accomplishing much of anything - or more importantly - we're not challenging the established order.
