On MOT from marketwatch: Sales and orders of wireless phones increased very significantly, led by Asia and Europe. Sales and orders were also higher in the Americas. While analog phone sales declined significantly, sales of digital phones increased very significantly and represented 87 percent of all wireless phone sales in the quarter. The most rapid growth was experienced by Global System for Mobile (GSM) communications products in Asia and Europe, by Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) products in Asia and the Americas, and by integrated digital enhanced network (iDEN) products in the Americas. Sales and orders of paging products declined very significantly. Consumer two-way radio product sales and orders were significantly higher. Bell Atlantic Mobile agreed to purchase one million wireless phones and accessories, including CDMA digital phones and StarTAC(R) Clip-On Organizers. Motorola strengthened its presence in the Brazilian market with a nearly $400 million agreement to supply one million CDMA phones and CDMA cellular infrastructure to Telesp Cellular. The i1000plus(TM) iDEN handset featuring an Internet microbrowser, two-way e-mail and wireless modem capabilities began shipping during the quarter. Motorola also began shipping the L7089 tri-band GSM phone, which is equipped with the latest international roaming technology; the SC3160 CDMA dual-mode digital/analog phone, and the PageWriter(R) 2000x two-way pager.
